cats is set to rise in India, sparking fears of more territorial fights.

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, studied all 407 deaths reported during the period and found specific causes in 200 of them.

Tigers killed each other in 67 instances, accounting for 33.5 per cent of the 200 deaths.

The report calls for a need to protect dispersal routes and corridors linking tiger habitats to conserve breeding population and reduce competition among tigers for resources.

There were 52 cases of poching 26 per cent of the death whose specific cause could be known.
