ANIMAL CARE IN ZOO

3075. SHRIMATI RAKSHATAI KHADSE:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:

(a) whether recently Zoo Authority of India has arranged a workshop especially on wild animal care to be taken in the zoo;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether some experts have expressed their views in the field like model infrastructures in zoological park and many more;

(d) if so, the details of suggestions given by these experts during the workshop and the steps taken by the Government for implementation of the suggestions; and

(e) whether new equipment has installed in zoo for animal care and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes,Madam. The Central Zoo Authority in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, Washington D.C., U.S.A. organised ‘Training Workshop on Capacity Building of Indian Zoo Veterinarians on Animal Health Management in Captivity’ from 11th to 19th September, 2017. The venue of this Training Workshop was the National Zoological Park, New Delhi. The training programme was for the Veterinarians of the zoos in India. In total, 35 Veterinarians of different zoos in the country attended the Workshop.

(c),(d)&(e) It was a training workshop wherein the participants were provided inputs and hands on training on capture and restraint, anaesthesia, field diseases, operant conditioning etc. No suggestions regarding model infrastructure in zoological parks has been provided. Gaseous Anesthetic machine has been installed in Veterinary Hospital of National Zoological Park, New Delhi, which was used in the workshop of zoo veterinarians organized by Central Zoo Authority.
