5 Jan 2018
Lok Sabha

  1. SHRI C. MAHENDRAN:

Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has any data about the emergence of superbugs in animals in the country and if so, the details thereof; \

(b) whether the Government has conducted any study in this regard;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether all the States are under threat of superbugs as per the findings of the said study; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the corrective measures taken by the Government in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE  (DR. MAHESH SHARMA)

 (a) to (e) Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change does not have any information about the emergence of superbugs in animals and any study carried in this regard.

However, in order to ensure judicious use of antimicrobials in animals and to prevent the Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries has issued two advisories to the State Governments suggesting prudent use of antimicrobials for treatment of animal diseases, banning the use of antimicrobial feed and to follow biosecurity measures. The National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (NAP-AMR) has already been prepared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare involving all stakeholders.
